Jackson......The mere mention of the name makes Don Flack smile. That's his baby, his love, his partner, and the most important person in his life. Don knew what it felt like when someone made the remark "I don't know what I'd do without him..." He certainly hoped that he never had to find out.

The two met in less than ideal circumstances. Don was investigating a murder, and stopped at Jackson's apartment to ask if he'd seen anything. Unfortunately, Jackson didn't have any pertinent information, but Don managed to score a phone number out of the deal. Don thought about Jackson for the rest of the day, and long into the night.

Two days later, Jackson was cleaning house when the phone rang. Not really wanting to stop what he was doing, Jackson decided to let the machine get it. When he heard Don Flack's voice, he snatched up the phone to talk to the detective. After a bit of small talk, Don made the big plunge. He asked if Jackson would like to go to dinner with him sometime. Jackson replied that that would be a splendid idea, and that he could be ready in 30 minutes.

Don laughed and said he would be there.

Dinner was a quiet affair. The two men talked a bit about themselves and their work. Just typical "getting to know you" conversation. At the end of the evening, Don was reluctant end things. He dropped Jackson at his place with a promise to call in the next couple of days, and then thought about him all the way back to his apartment. As fate would have it, Don didn't get a chance to call Jackson. A huge case broke, and it was all hands on deck. Don didn't get a chance to call Jackson for nearly a week.

As Don was waiting for Jackson to pick up, he began to get nervous. What if Jackson was pissed that he didn't call? What if Jackson didn't want to talk to him?

Don's fears were groundless. Once Jackson figured out he was talking to Don, it was if nothing had gone wrong. Don asked how he could be so calm about all of it, and Jackson replied that it was just all a part of being a cop's boyfriend. Don was so relieved that he understood, and hoped that if they made it, that Jackson would always be so understanding.

As time went on, things got better. Don found that Jackson wasn't perfect, and Don was fine with that. Jackson smoked too much, but then so did Don, was prone to being a bit too mouthy when provoked, and could drink Danny Messer under the table! All of this aside, Don really did love Jackson, and was content in the knowledge that Jackson truly loved him. It wasn't something they discussed, it was just there.

Don knew there would never be anyone else for him, and he thanked God for sending Jackson to him. It made him feel like he was the luckiest guy in the world.....
