Ryan smiled as he leaned back against the pillows, glancing towards the bedroom door. He and Greg had the day off, and his boyfriend had insisted that they were going to have breakfast in bed -- after he made breakfast, of course, Ryan thought with a chuckle.

Greg was actually a good cook, he told himself as he settled down against the pillows to wait. It was one of the little perks of having him for a boyfriend -- they didn't have to go out to eat as often as he would if he wasn't dating someone who was a whiz in the kitchen.

All of the little things that Greg did for him just showed how much his boyfriend cared about him, Ryan thought with a soft smile. No one had ever been like that with him before; he'd never had a lover, male or female, who did as much for him as Greg did.

It was nice to feel taken care of, to feel as loved as Greg made him feel. There had never been anyone in his life who made him feel so completely wrapped in love, so cherished and special. He hoped that he made Greg feel exactly the same way. He tried his best to do that.

Without Greg in his life, where would he be? Ryan asked himself. He couldn't suppress a shudder at the thought; he'd probably still be here in Vegas, but he would be alone, and he would more than likely be well on his way to turning into a bitter old man.

Well, maybe not old, he amended with an inward smile. He was still young, and so was Greg. They had so many years ahead of them, years that they would spend together, loving each other, doing all those little mundane things that proved how much they cared.

Small things like making breakfast, washing each other's hair in the shower, bringing home little things that each of them knew the other liked -- those were the kinds of things that no one had ever done for him before, but that Greg seemed to do all the time.

Greg really was his soul mate, Ryan reflected, closing his eyes as he relaxed back against the pillows. There was so much that Greg brought to his life that no one ever had before, so much that he'd never expected to have that he now found himself receiving every day.

He had never realized how much he needed those small actions, like Greg kissing him every night before they walked out of their apartment to go to work. Those little glances across a crime scene that told him Greg was right there, that his boyfriend had his back.

Little things could mean so much, and he'd never really had any of those small things before. But now that he did, Ryan knew that he would never take them for granted. Each small gesture that showed him how much Greg cared for him would always be lodged in his heart.

Did Greg feel the same way? Ryan was sure that he did; he knew that his boyfriend hadn't dated much during the years before they'd met, and given Greg's background, he could understand why. There hadn't been people in his life who would do those little things for him, either.

The thought that Greg had spent so long feeling that he was unworthy of being loved hurt Ryan's heart. He tried to push that thought away and out of his mind; he didn't want to think that his boyfriend could ever have felt that he didn't deserve to be loved.

How could anyone not love Greg? Ryan asked himself, shaking his head at the thought. He had fallen so hard for his boyfriend at first sight that he couldn't imagine anyone else not having the same response -- though he was glad that no one tried to move in on his territory.

Greg was beautiful, smart, funny, brave .... his boyfriend had all the qualities that he appreciated in a man, Ryan though with a soft smile. He loved everything about Greg; there was nothing that he would ever seek to change about the man he loved.

Of course, Greg wasn't perfect; no one was. But he wouldn't want to be with someone who was perfect -- in his eyes, they would be dull and boring, because they would have nothing to strive for. He hoped that neither of them ever got to that point, though he couldn't realistically see it happening.

He and Greg would always care for each other, and Ryan was sure that they would only love each other as time went on. He couldn't ever see his love for Greg dissipating or fading away; Greg was too much a part of him, part of the fabric of his life, as well as his heart and soul.

Just being with Greg gave him a warm feeling, made him feel safe and protected, wrapped in his boyfriend's love. No one else had ever made him feel that way; no one else had ever loved him the way Greg did. They were truly destined for each other.

Ryan opened his eyes when he heard a sound at the bedroom door; Greg was standing there, carrying a tray and beaming at him. Ryan moved over in the bed as Greg advanced across the room to carefully set the tray down on the table beside the bed with a smile.

"Hey, babe," he said softly, his dark gaze meeting Ryan's. "Let me run back to the kitchen and get the other tray, and then we can have breakfast in bed and relax all morning. We've both been working hard lately, so I think we deserve to be pampered a little."

Ryan nodded, watching as Greg left the room. His boyfriend came back only a moment later, carrying another tray with all the accoutrements for coffee. When both trays were safely ensconced on the bedside table, he sat down beside Ryan, handing him a steaming mug of coffee.

"I made toast, pancakes, and scrambled eggs," Greg told Ryan, handing him a plate. "I figured that's what we'd probably eat if he we had gone out for breakfast. So if it's good enough for us to order at a restaurant, it's good enough for us to eat in bed."

Ryan laughed, nodding as he picked up his fork. "I couldn't agree more," he said, leaning over to kiss his lover. "It's terrific, Greg. I've never had anybody in my life before who cared enough about me to make me breakfast in bed. You're the most amazing guy I've ever known. I'm a lucky man."

"We could argue about which one of us is more amazing all day," Greg said with a laugh, picking up his own plate. "Let's not go there, okay? I'm hungry. I don't know about you, but I'm ready to dig into these pancakes. I'm a pretty good cook, if I do say so myself."

"You sure are," Ryan agreed with a nod and a smile. He leaned back against the pillows, the plate on his lap, watching his boyfriend and feeling loved. He'd never had a morning like this -- though he was sure that there would be many more to come in the future.

He and Greg would spend the rest of their lives caring for each other like this. The thought made him feel warm and protected; he could look forward to many more mornings like this, and probably evenings as well. As long as Greg was in his life, he would be loved and cared for.

If this was what he could look forward to for the rest of his life, he could hardly wait for the future to come rushing towards him, Ryan thought with an inward smile. A life like this with Greg would make him the happiest man in the world -- and in his opinion, the luckiest as well.
