Nick looked at the open suitcase lying on the bed. He was just about done packing, and wanted to make sure he had everything . What he was about to do was by far one of the hardest things he'd ever had to do, but the fact remained that it had to be done. He'd been putting this off for quite a while, but there was no getting around it any longer. It really was time to go.

Nick put the final items in his case and set it by the bedroom door. He took one more look around and then headed downstairs. He got his jacket from the closet and took his bag out to his truck. He locked the front door and put his key under the flower pot on the corner of the porch. He knew Gil would find it there.

When Nick got to his new place, he unpacked his bag and made some lunch. While having lunch, Nick's thoughts went back to why he was here. He and Gil had been having problems for about a year. It started out with Gil not really wanting to hear what Nick had on his mind, to practically ignoring Nick, to flat out indifference.

Nick put up with it as long as he could, and decided that if Gil didn't want to do anything about the situation, Nick would leave. He decided that he didn't have to stay in a situation like that, no matter how much he loved Gil. He immediately started looking for an apartment and making plans to get things underway. He knew he didn't have much time because Gil was due back from a lecture tour in a few days.

Luckily he finished ahead of schedule and was out sooner than he expected. Now all he had to do was wait for Gil to come home and see what happened then. As he was washing the lunch dishes, a thought occurred to Nick. He wondered what Gil would think about him leaving. Then he became curious and wondered if it would even bother Gil, if so, would he shed a tear? Then another thought occurred to Nick, and he spoke it out loud....."Hell, I wonder if he'll even notice I'm gone."
