Detective Don Flack was sitting at his desk at the NYPD when he saw his old buddy, Tony walking in. He stood up and called out to him.

“You should’ve called me, man!” Don said, as he hugged Tony tightly. “I could’ve come to pick you up.”

Tony shrugged. “I thought I would take in the sights.” Tony took a look around where Don was working.

“This where you’re working?”

“Yeah, but I am over at the CSI labs most of the time,” Don replied. “Man, it’s really good to see you!”

Tony grinned. “It has been a while. It has been what...”

“5 years, too long, buddy!”

“Yeah, too long. So what you’ve been up to?” Tony asked, sitting in the chair offered.

Don started to tell Tony about him and his life, when his captain came in.

“You Anthony DiNozzo?” Captain Arnold asked. Tony stood up and made a small nod.

“Tony, sir.”

“Good, come in my office,” Arnold said and turned to Don. “Mac needs you.”

“Yes, Captain,” Don said. He scribbled something down on a piece of paper and handed it to Tony. “Here’s my number. Call me when you’ve finished.”

Tony took the number and assured Don that he would call once he was finished here. Don nodded and patted on Tony’s back, telling him that it was good to have him here.

Tony smiled. He hoped that moving to New York would be a new beginning, away from Jethro Gibbs. Sighing heavily, he really needed to get Gibbs out of his mind. Out of sight, out of mind...only it seemed to be not working.

Tony made a small shrug and followed the captain to his office.

The interview went well. The captain explained that Tony would be partnered up with Don and be a liaison between the NYPD and the CSI labs. He thought that this would be good for Tony since he had some experience in forensics when he was in the NCIS.

When they shook hands, the captain asked why Tony suddenly decided to leave the NCIS. Tony shrugged, telling him that he felt it was time to move on. He has been in the NCIS too long, and needed to get out.

“But why returning to the police force?” the captain asked. “You could have gone for better than this. You got a glowing reference from your former boss and you have a degree in languages.”

Tony was surprised that Arnold took time to read his files through. He knew that Gibbs didn’t read the whole of his files, or he would have mentioned his degree.

Swallowing hard, Tony said, “Yeah, well, I like being a cop.”

The captain nodded. He wished Tony the best of luck and told him to come back on Monday.

Once Tony was out of NYPD, he called Don and Don gave him directions to his apartment, telling him that he would meet him there.

Tony protested that he would find somewhere else to stay, but Don wasn’t having any of it. Finally, Tony gave in and agreed to stay at Don’s.

Don and Tony were at the apartment, sharing a pizza and drinking beer, and catching up, when there was a knock on the door.

“That must be Danny,” Don said as he went to the door. Tony wondered who Danny was, when a man with dirty blonde hair and glasses came in the kitchen with Don.

“Tony, I want you to meet my partner, Danny,” Don said and then he turned to Danny. “This is Tony, an old buddy of mine. We went to the Academy together.”

If Tony was surprised, he didn’t show it as he shook Danny’s hand. He didn’t know that Don was gay. He always thought that Don was straight and remembered that Don was supposed to be with a girl called Jess Angel or something like that.

It was as if Don read Tony’s mind because he surprised him by saying, “I guess I should explain.”

Tony shrugged. “You don’t need to explain.”

“Well, what a man needs to do around here to get a beer?” Danny spoke up and the guys laughed.

Don went to the fridge as Danny sat down next to Tony.

“I thought I met all of Donnie’s friends...where did you come from?”

Tony’s ears piped up at the nickname and turned to Don. “Donnie?”

Don blushed and glared at Danny, who grinned.

“Don’t, Tony...or should I say, Stallion?”

Tony groaned and Danny titled his head, quizzically.

Don sat down at the counter and told Danny about Tony’s antics at the Academy with the guys and girls. Danny laughed at the stories but Tony gave as good as Don did and told Danny all about Don and how goody-shoes Don was.

The three guys chatted all through the night, drinking and laughing, talking about the old days.
