Summary: Set about 2 years after Peaches On A Cherry Tree, Nick reflects on how things changed.
A/N: This is for the folks asking for a sequel, plus the pb wouldn't leave me alone.....

Nick sat on the sofa, relaxing and enjoying his night off. Gil had called earlier to check on him, and to tell him that he might get a chance to get home earlier than usual. Nick was hoping Gil would get home early because they had both been working crazy hours, and they really needed a chance to re-connect. Of course re-connecting was always so much fun.

After tidying up the front room and the kitchen, Nick made his way to the bedroom to take a shower. After his shower he got ready for bed, and while he was waiting for sleep to claim him, his thoughts went back over the past two years and how things had changed for him.

When Nick and Gil had first gotten together, Nick was hoping that Gil was the one. Gil had other things in mind because once he realized Nick was serious, he had rather abruptly ended things. He knew he was hurting Nick, but he was scared of a serious commitment. After tip-toeing around each other for a few months, Nick stopped by Gil's office one morning right before the end of shift asking if they could talk. Gil agreed, and they went to the diner.

Nick wanted to know why Gil had dumped him the way he did, and Gil confessed that he was afraid of how he truly felt about Nick, and that he felt that he really didn't deserve a guy as beautiful, and smart and talented as Nick. Nick really didn't know what to say. He had no idea that Gil felt that way, especially since Gil had dumped him like a bad habit. While Nick was still trying to take all of this in, Gil asked if they could go for a drink sometime. Nick told him that he would think about it, and would let him know.

After giving it some serious thought, Nick accepted Gil's invitation, and things progressed from there. At first it was just drinks, then dinner, then it went to dinner and a movie. Nick was taking things extremely slow, and he hoped that Gil understood. Gil did understand, and didn't push Nick because he knew he had hurt him deeply before. After several week of this, Nick decided that he was ready to take things further. Gil was delighted at this turn of events, but wanted to do things right. He and Nick talked things over and Nick was able to explain why things had to be the way they were, and Gil completely understood. He was also able to finally tell Nick that he realized that Nick was the best thing that had ever happened to him, and he would do everything in his power to keep from making the same mistake twice.

About 6 months after they started seeing each other again, Gil asked Nick to move in with him. Nick asked for time to think it over, and Gil told him to take his time. Nick moved in the following week, and they had been living together ever since. So far, it had been the best decision Nick had ever made because Gil had made good on his word about cherishing and loving Nick to the fullest.

As Nick drifted further down into sleep, something occured to him. Something he hadn't thought of in a very long time. He smiled to himself and whisped, "I was wrong after all. You CAN grow peaches on a cherry tree!"
