Summary: Short ficlet describing what might have happened after Viva Las Vegas. Inspired by 'Push' by Sarah McLachlan (lyrics belong to her and all that jazz).

"I fucked up, Nick."

Greg paced back and forth, his concerned boyfriend sitting on the bed, watching him. "It was an honest mistake-"

"Did you do what I did on your first test?" Greg shot back, fire in his eyes.

Nick didn't know the right way to respond to that. "Well…no, but…Grissom's understanding. He'll give you another chance."

"This was supposed to be my chance!" Greg stopped his pacing and turned to look at Nick. "This just means more days in the lab, more days running test after boring test…" He returned to walking back and forth, periodically punching his fist into his palm.

"Greg-" Nick started.

The blonde ignored him. "Now with Chandra gone I've got no chance to get out in the field. I'll just be stuck in that damn lab-"

"Greg!" Nick said more forcefully. He rose from the bed and approached his lover. His voice dropped low as he spoke. "Everything's going to work out. You're going to pass your proficiency and you're going to be a full-time CSI." With those last words, he pulled Greg into a loving embrace.

As Nick held him tight, Greg smiled for the first time that day.
