The first couple of weeks out of the hospital had been quite brutal. The dreams had seemed so real and when Nick woke he had to reassure himself that it was over and he was home and everything would be fine or rather it was Grissom doing the reassuring because Nick was having problems reassuring himself. Besides when Grissom said he was safe, Nick could believe it because Grissom made it all seem plausible.

The whole unit had taken turns coming to see Nick to spend sometime with him, or rather to watch him at night.

Whenever Nick slept he kept dreaming the same memories and he would always wake up in a cold sweat. The doctors had given Nick some pills to take so he could sleep better at night but he hadn't taken a single one. He didn't want to depend on some pill for good night sleep. He wanted just to be able to close his eyes and have a dream that didn't resemble a nightmare, on his own.

Some nights he wouldn't dream at all and those were the best nights. He would be so exhausted that his mind didn't have the energy to come up with the memories of that night to taunt him with. However, those nights weren't very often and only happen when Grissom was over watching him. Truly it was the only time he ever felt safe.
