He thinks if he smiles, the world would bow down at his feet. He thinks those sweaters he wears, snug but loose, grazing the outline of a wide chest would make that person see. He thinks his merely walking into the office would overshadow everything within. His energy, his enthusiasm, his need to please would blind the man inside to all except the vision of him.

He's a fool.

I should know.

I'm a former member of the "Gil Grissom Intellectual Adoration" club.

I hung onto his every word like a lifeline to the mind. Those literary quotes made me desire the taste of smartness dripping from his lips, for the cool, pale skin rubbing against my darker tones. I thought if I touched, I would be intelligent and urbane, becoming a variation of his image. I would be the center of his world.

Until one day, he took me and there was nothing there but cold reasoning and the satisfying of his curious mind.

I dropped out of the club and became Gil's equal, not in rank or skill just in dignity.

Nick will learn.

And when he does, I'll be waiting.

The End.
