Title: Something Like Us
By: flipflopadd1ct
Pairing: Nick/Greg
Rating: R
Summary: "You can run to me, you can laugh at me, or you can walk right out that door, but I can't be your friend anymore." Inspired by another D.H.T. cover; lyrics at the end are not mine.***
Nick pulled the condom off, tied it, and unceremoniously tossed it in the trash can. He slipped back under his covers, still naked. "See you tomorrow, Greg," he muttered in a sleep-heavy voice.
Greg slid off Nick's bed and was halfway through putting his boxers on when it hit him. He needed to get it off his chest. He needed to tell Nick now.
"Nick?" he asked, tentatively.
The sleeping man didn't respond.
"Nick?" Greg tried again.
When he was once more answered by silence, Greg threw caution to the wind and kicked his boxers off. He pushed the covers aside and fell fast asleep next to Nick.

"What the hell?"
Nick's confused voice jolted Greg awake.
"Why are you still here? Greg, back when we started doing this, we decided that no one sleeps at the other guy's house-"
"Yeah, well, I needed to talk to you about something important and trying to talk to you while you're asleep is like trying to talk to a brick wall," Greg retorted, getting up.
"Point taken." Both were still naked as they stood in front of each other in Nick's bedroom. "Well, I'm all ears," Nick finally said.
Greg fidgeted with the edge of the sheet as if he was trying to get his words straight.
"I just can't do this anymore, Nick."
"What's wrong with it?" Nick asked. "We're just two guys helping each other out. It happens all the time."
"I know, I know, but..."
Greg slid an arm around Nick's wait and kissed him on the mouth, letting all of his emotions and feelings pour out in one fluid motion.
Nick stumbled backwards when Greg pulled away. "What was that?"
"Actions speak louder than words?" Greg said, grinning sheepishly.
"You just broke our second rule," replied Nick, still shell-shocked.
Greg threw his arms in the air in exasperation. "That's what I'm talking about, Nick! I can't do this emotional detachment thing anymore! Just sex isn't cutting it for me. I want more than your body. I - I think I love you, Nick."
Nick was staring at Greg, the expression on his face indiscernible.
"Yeah, well, I'll just be going then..." Greg reached down for his boxers and jeans.
"Wait!" This time Nick surprised Greg with a sudden, passionate kiss which literally swept Greg off his feet. Greg suddenly found himself on his back on Nick's bed, Nick kneeling over him with both hands on either side of Greg's head.
"Does this mean you're willing to give a try at being something more?" Greg was beaming.
"I think it's worth giving a shot."
Nick kissed Greg on the lips again before moving south, now able to explore Greg's body with love instead of lust. Nick's lips hovered mere inches above Greg's awakening cock when he spoke again.
"You are so lucky I decided to wake up early today," Nick chuckled just before taking Greg's cock into his mouth. When Greg arched into the both familiar and brand-new sensation, he knew their days of being nothing but fuck buddies were gone.
A/N: D.H.T. also covered this song, "I Can't Be Your Friend," which was originally performed by the band Rushlow in 2004. The lyrics here are D.H.T.'s slightly-modified lyrics.
"I Can't Be Your Friend"
D.H.T. featuring Edmée
You can run to me
You can laugh at me
Or you can walk right out that door
But I can't be your friend anymore
This might come as quite a shock
But I've given it a lot of thought
This thing that's come between us can't be ignored
I've taken all I can
This is where it's got to end
'Cause I can't be your friend anymore
And I can't be accused
Of not being there for you
How many nights have you shown up at my door
I hope you understand
That this wasn't in my plans
But I can't be your friend anymore
And it's killing me to know you
Without having a chance to hold you
And all I wanna do is show you
How I really feel inside
You can run to me
You can laugh at me
Or you can walk right out that door
But I can't be your friend anymore
So baby now it's up to you
Do I win or do I lose
Will my heart fly or lie broken on the floor
Well take me as I am
'Cause I want you to be my man
But I can't be your friend anymore
And it's killing me to know you
Without having a chance to hold you
And all I wanna do is show you
How I really feel inside
You can run to me
You can laugh at me
Or you can walk right out that door
But I can't be your friend anymore
And it's killing me to know you
Without having a chance to hold you
And all I wanna do is show you
How I really feel inside
You can run to me
You can laugh at me
Or you can walk right out that door
But I can't be just friends anymore***
