Greg sat up in bed, a hand pressed against his pounding heart.

"What a hell of a dream," he muttered, then glanced over at Ryan, hoping that he hadn't awakened his lover. He didn't think he'd cried out, but he couldn't be sure.

No, Ryan was still sleeping peacefully, a slight smile curving his lips. Greg sighed in relief; the last thing he wanted to do was to wake Ryan up and try to describe the nightmare he'd just had. It was already fading; he really couldn't remember that much about it now.

But while it had been happening, while he'd been caught up in the throes of the dream, it had been terrifying. And he knew one thing for certain.

That nightmare had something to do with what he'd felt in that house.

It was unusual for him to have bad dreams about crime scenes; he'd seen enough of them in the years that he'd been a CSI, and a lot of them had been worse than this one.

But there had been something otherworldly about this crime scene, something that had called to that sixth sense he seemed to possess. He hadn't been able to ignore it; he'd kept looking up the entire time they were at the place, almost expecting to see a ghostly apparition.

Greg wasn't sure that he believed in ghosts, but there had been a presence at that crime scene, one that had almost felt as though it was calling to him.

Why was he so obsessed with the place? Greg asked himself. He'd felt this kind of thing from other crime scenes before, after all. But never this strongly.

Was it really some supernatural presence there that called to him -- or was it more something of this world, some evil that was just out of his line of vision? Was the person who had committed the double homicide they were investigating still hanging around the house?

Maybe that was it. Maybe it was just that the murderer was still there, and his senses were reacting to that fact even though he couldn't actually see the person.

He hoped that was it. Anything else sounded .... well, a little crazy.

No, he wasn't going to use that word to describe himself. He wasn't crazy. Ryan believed him, and Ryan was one of the sanest, steadiest men he knew.

Greg couldn't shake the feeling that they'd been watched at the house -- not by something supernatural, but by a good old-fashioned human murderer, the sort that he'd dealt with many times over as a CSI. They would catch the person, and they'd put him behind bars where he belonged.

But at the same time, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to this case than met the eye -- his sixth sense proved that beyond any doubt.

At the moment, he was unsure just which side of the fence he was on.
