Ryan turned over onto his back with a sigh of contentment, wrapping an arm around Greg as his boyfriend snuggled close against him and rested his head on Ryan's shoulder. Every time they made love, it only got better, taking them closer to the stars.

How could sex with Greg possibly be better? Ryan asked himself with an inward smile. No one had ever made him feel the way Greg did; no one else had ever given him the satisfaction that Greg could with just a smile, let alone a session of lovemaking.

He'd never known the kind of pleasure he always experienced when he and Greg made love with anyone else. It was as though he'd been slumbering for all of his life, and he'd only woken up the first time he'd touched Greg and kissed him.

Ryan couldn't help wondering if that was somehow true; he'd been like a modern version of Sleeping Beauty before Greg had awakened him. He'd thought that he knew love and passion, but nothing he'd ever felt had prepared him for the life he led now.

He'd known nothing about love, real love, before he'd met this man. No one else had ever tugged at his heart the way that Greg did; no one else had been able to wrap themselves around his consciousness, to take him over as completely as this man had.

Greg was the perfect partner for him, professionally as well as personally. Maybe it was just because of their strong emotional connection to each other, but whenever they were in the field, even in a dangerous situation, he trusted Greg with his life.

He trusted his other teammates too, of course; but none of them were Greg. None of them would watch out for his safety in the way that Greg would; none of them loved him. None of them would protect him with the intensity that Greg would, for every day of their lives.

How had he ever thought that he'd been in love before Greg? Those feelings seemed like nothing now; he couldn't even recall the names and faces of some of the people he'd thought he had loved when he was much younger. They had all faded into the background.

He'd never really known how much physical pleasure two people could give each other until he'd met Greg, either. Every time they made love, he felt as though he could touch the stars; no one had ever lifted him to those heights before.

"What are you thinking about?" Greg murmured, sliding his arms around Ryan and snuggling closer to him. "And don't tell me nothing. I know you better than that. Right now, you look like the cat that just got the saucer of milk and the canary."

"I was thinking about the two of us," Ryan told him, turning over onto his side and pulling Greg close against the warmth of his body. "About how much I love you, and how I never really knew what real love was like until I met you."

He bowed hs head to capture Greg's lips with his own, moving his hands up Greg's back. He loved having this man in his arms; just having Greg near him, knowing that his feelings were returned, was enough to make his heart soar into the clouds.

"I never fell in love before, until you came into my life," Greg whispered against his lips. "I'd thought about what it would feel like to be in love, but I never thought I'd know what it was like. I never thought I could fall in love, or that anybody would love me."

"How could you think that?" Ryan murmured, raising a hand to run his fingers through Greg's hair. "You're the most lovable person I know, Greg. I'm surprised that you stayed single for so long. I'd have thought that guys would be all over you."

"People have wanted to date me -- but they were never interested in a long-term relationship," Greg told him with a shrug. "All most of the guys I've dated were after was a one-night stand, or some fun and games. Nothing more than that."

"Their loss," Ryan said softly, wishing that he could track down every person who had made Greg feel so unloved and beat them to a pulp. He hated thinking that anyone had ever hurt his boyfriend, even though he knew that pain was a part of life.

"Most people don't really care about anything but their own pleasure, do they?" Greg asked, his brow furrowing in thought. "But you're different from anybody else I've ever known, Ry. You always put me and how I'm feeling first. Nobody else has ever done that."

"You're the same way," Ryan said softly, a lump starting to form in his throat. "You know that I've got some issues to work through, and you don't push me to get past them any more quickly than I can. You're the most amazing guy I've ever known, Greg."

"I'm not all that special," Greg said, shaking his head. After a moment of silence, he laughed softly as he spoke again. "Then again, maybe I am. I was a scientific child prodigy, I'm the youngest guy ever to be the head of a DNA lab ...."

"Oh, you're a special guy, alright," Ryan told him, laughing along with his boyfriend. "And more special to me than I could ever put into words." He brushed a gentle kiss across Greg's forehead, sinking back into the soft pillows with a contented sigh.

"Nobody could ever be more special to me than you are," Greg whispered, resting his head on Ryan's shoulder and placing his palm on his boyfriend's chest. "You've stolen my heart, Ryan. And I don't want it back. Not ever. I know it's safe in your keeping."

"If I recall correctly, you gave it to me, so I didn't steal it," Ryan said with a soft laugh. "And you know I'll keep it safe, Greg. I'll protect your heart with my life. And I'll never be like those other people you've known. I'll always think of your pleasure before mine."

"Our pleasure," Greg murmured, raising his head to brush a gentle kiss across Ryan's parted lips. "It's not just about one or the other of us, Ry. It's about both of us. Enjoying each other, protecting each other, loving each other. It doesn't get any better than that."

"No, it doesn't," Ryan agreed, his voice soft and husky with emotion. "You're more special to me than I'd ever have dreamed any one person could be,. Greg. I never knew love until I knew you -- and I could never love anybody more than I love you."

"I love you, too," Greg whispered, his voice soft, but his words firm and strong. "You're my heart and soul, Ry. You're everything to me. My life started the day I met you -- and I don't ever want to look back at the past. Just ahead to our future."

Ryan closed his eyes, tightening his arm around Greg and pulling his boyfriend closer against the warmth of his body. Those words meant more to him than any others he'd ever heard, and he intended to hold them close to his heart for all of his life to come.
