Don looked around the apartment once more before taking the last of his things down to his car. He remembered the letter he'd written Mac and retrieved it from his coat pocket. He pulled the letter from the envelope and read it one more time.....

Everything I tried to do for you seemed to always turn out wrong. I want you to know that it took a lot of love and patience to make me stay as long as I did. Suffice to say that it's too late to try and sweet-talk me into staying and putting up with more of the shit you've been dishing out lately.

I've often wondered what I'd find if I could see inside your head. God know there's something there that's made me feel like I was losing my mind more than once. I know you cared about me at one point, but that changed, and now it's come to this. I don't know that I will ever figure out what happened. I do know that it's not my problem anymore.

Once I started gathering up the pieces of my broken heart, I decided I could do better. I don't have to put up with you or your shit anymore, and I'm not going to. That's why I leaving with my head held high standing tall.

Don

Don re-folded the letter and placed it back in the envelope. He walked over to the coffee table and place it where Mac would be sure to find it. Having done that, Don turned and walked out of the apartment.....
