There's a look in Nick's eyes that he can't quite place. And that surprises him because Nick's pretty much an open book to him. His eyes wander to Grissom's face, but there's nothing there to explain the weird, almost tense look in Nick's eyes. Not that he's very good at reading Grissom, but that never stops him from trying.

As Grissom and Nick are about to leave the lab he offers Nick a smile, but the smile he gets in return is forced and doesn't reach Nick's eyes. Greg sighs and tries to focus on his work, reaching for his pen and accidently pushing one of the files onto the floor. Leans forward to pick it up, his hands trembling when he does.

The end of his shift and he finds himself in the locker room, he turns Warrick down when he asks him out for breakfast, sits down on one of the benches and looks down at his hands that are still trembling.

He briefly wonders when the tremor returned and why he didn't notice its return before now. Then the door opens and he doesn't need to look up, knows it's Nick even before the other man steps into the room.

"Greg?" Nick asks softly.

Greg waits until Nick's moved closer, doesn't answer him though, doesn't look up either, instead he holds up his hands and says, "It's back."

"I noticed."

It's barely a whisper and Greg looks up, meets Nick's eyes, a familiar look of worry in his eyes, and he absentmindedly realizes he now understands the earlier look of tension on Nick's face.

"Don't do this, Greg."

He doesn't ask what, because he knows. And Nick does too, because strong fingers close around his trembling hands and maybe that's why he didn't notice before. He smiles again, his worries and fears replaced by an odd sense of relief, and says, "I'm okay."

Nick just stares at him for a brief moment, before hauling him up to his feet and then he nods, slowly. "I know."

Greg searches Nick eyes to see if those aren't just words for comfort, notices the care in the other man's eyes, but can't miss the evident worry. He raises his eyebrow, "Are you sure about that?"

The grip on his hands tightens and there's a determined look on Nick's face when he nods again, "Yeah, but that doesn't stop me from worrying."

Greg mirrors Nick's nod as he entwines their fingers. "I know."
