Danny looked down at the letter clutched in his hand, almost unable to believe the words that he'd read. This should be something that would make him jump with joy, but instead, it only made him feel as though someone had dropped an anvil onto his heart.

The letter was an invitation to take part in a golf tournament that would travel around the world -- one that he would ordinarily give his eyeteeth to take part in.

But if he did, then he would be gone for several months, maybe even close to a year. And in all of that time, he wouldn't be able to see Greg. That wasn't a good way to start a relationship, with him being gone and having to keep in touch via phone and skype.

That wasn't how he wanted this relationship to be.

He wanted to be with Greg all the time, to stay with him every moment that he could. So far, things were working out just the way he wanted them to; they were able to see each other nearly every night, and even when they weren't together, they were in the same city.

He didn't want to be out on the road, with far too many temptations shoved at him, and with Greg nowhere near to be there when Danny needed him. That kind of distance had ruined a couple of relationships for him before; he wouldn't let it happen this time.

Shaking his head, he put the letter down on his desk, running a hand through his hair. As much as he wanted to say yes to the invitation and take part in the tournament, he couldn't do it. He had to make a choice between his relationship and his career.

His relationship had to win out. There was no other choice in the matter. Greg was more important to him than anything else in his life -- even the golfing career that he'd worked so hard to maintain. It might be a weakness to want a good relationship, but it was his choice.

He couldn't be so far away from Greg so soon. It wouldn't work.

If he accepted that invitation, he would lose Greg. He was sure of it, more sure than he'd ever been of anything. They might want to stay together, but he knew what that kind of distance could do. No, he couldn't risk it. He would have to give in to his weakness.

Greg wasn't a weakness, Danny told himself firmly. Greg made him strong. Greg gave him something that he'd always needed, and never really had in his life. Love.

Love was never a weakness, it was a strength. And that love would keep him stronger than anything else ever could, Danny told himself with a smile. Crumpling up the letter, he tossed it towards the trash can, knowing in his heart that he was making the right decision.
