Nick knew another headache was coming on. From the way he felt, it was going to be another bad one. He didn't want to say anything to Greg because he'd just had a really bad headache last week. Greg had fussed and raised hell at him about not going to the doctor, and he really didn't need that shit right now. He was working a double because they were short-handed at the lab, and everyone was stretched very thin. He was hoping that the aspirin he had just taken would ease the pain.

When it was time to go, Nick left as quickly as he could. He was anxious to get home so he could lie down. The headache had gotten worse, and it was making his vision blurry. He thought about calling a cab, but knew Greg would figure out that something was wrong. When he got to the house, he was relieved to see that Greg's car was gone. He made his way in and went directly to bed. As sleep began to take him, the ache in his head eased and he felt a little better.

Nick woke up sometime later to the smell of food cooking. He followed the aromas to the kitchen where he found Greg stirring pots and chopping vegetables.....

“Hey, babe...”

“Hi, sleepyhead!”

“What's cookin'?”

“Stir-fry with chicken and mixed veggies...”

“It smells great. Any coffee?”

“But of course, sir! Would you like a cup?”

“Please...”

Greg poured Nick a cup of coffee and Nick sat down at the table. He so enjoyed watching Greg in a domestic mood. It didn't happen very often, and that's what made Nick enjoy is so much more. After dinner, Nick and Greg decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood. While they were out, Greg asked Nick if he was feeling any better, and at first, Nick was confused.....

“What are you talking about, G? I feel fine.”

“That's not what Catherine told me earlier.....”

“Dammit, I should have known!”

“Yes, Nicky, you should have. You had another one of those headaches again, didn't you?”

“Yeah, but it's gone now.....”

“Whether you like it or not, you're going to the doctor!”

“Awww, come on, G.....”

“No arguments! You need to get this checked out. It could be something serious.....”

“It's just stress, Greg. You know the amount of pressure we've been under at work.”

“I do indeed, Nick. But you've been having these headaches longer than you've let on. I can tell when you have one just by the way you look, and the way you act.....”

Nick knew he was busted. He'd been having the headaches for the last three months on a regular basis. If things were really stressful, they came twice a week sometimes. He thought he was fooling Greg, and everyone else for that matter, but in truth, he was only fooling himself.

When they got back home, Nick started the water in the oversized tub. Once the tub was filled, he lit some candles and checked to see that Greg was still on the phone in the living room. He stripped and got into the tub to wait for Greg. Greg came looking for him and was pleasantly surprised at what he found. He stripped and got into the tub with Nick. They talked about everything and nothing, just relaxing and enjoying each other. When the water started to cool, Greg suggested that they adjourn to the bedroom.

Nick lay down on the bed and took Greg into his arms. The two men began exploring each others' bodies with their tongues, lips, fingers, hands. Greg leaned over and caught Nick's mouth in a soul-searing kiss, and Nick was just about to tell Greg that he wanted Greg to be on top when a shooting pain ripped through his head, causing him to cry out. Greg immediately got dressed and tossed Nick's clothes to him stating that they were on their way to the emergency room.....

By the time they arrived at Desert Palms, Nick's headache had gotten worse, and he could barely stand, let alone walk. Greg went inside and got a wheelchair for him and wheeled him inside. Greg explained to the nurse what was going on, and began to filling out the dreaded paperwork that goes with an ER visit. Nick sat quietly with his eyes closed trying to will the ache to go away. Greg came over and assured him that everything was gonna be okay and that the doctor would see him soon.

The nurse came over and escorted the two men to an exam room. Dr. Willis came in, introduced himself, and got right down to business.....

“So, Mr. Stokes, what seems to be the problem?”

“Well, doc, I've been having these headaches recently, and they seem to be getting worse.”

“How long have you had them?”

“About three months.....”

“What are the symptoms?”

“It all depends...sometimes I get nauseated, and I have these shooting pains in my head. My vision gets blurry, and that sometimes lasts even after the headache goes away.”

Dr. Willis ordered some blood tests and some X-rays to be done. He asked Nick when he had last had an eye exam. Nick told him that it had been about a year ago. He suggested an eye exam just to be on the safe side. He also wrote Nick a prescription and said that if they had any problems to feel free to call. He also suggested that Nick make an appointment with his regular doctor for a check-up.

After Nick's blood was drawn and the X-rays taken, Nick and Greg went to their pharmacy and had the prescription filled. That was one good thing about living in a town that stays open 24 hours a day. You could get things whenever you needed to. When they got home, the guys went in and got ready for bed. Nick took one of the pills and got in bed. Greg came in soon after, and as they lay there, Nick apologized to Greg for ruining their evening.....

“Babe, I'm sorry about earlier.....”

“Don't be silly, Nick. You don't need to apologize.”

“But …..”

“No buts, Nicky. You need to concentrate on what this could be, and worry about getting better. I just wish you had told me about this earlier.....”

“I know, Greggo. I was hoping it would go away on its' own.....”

“Well, it didn't. Now we just have to figure out what's causing it.”

“You aren't mad?”

“No, Nick, I'm just worried about you, and what this could be.....”

Nick reached over and pulled Greg into his arms. He kissed him, and the two men settled down for the night.

The next morning, Greg called and made an appointment with their eye doctor for Nick. While Nick was in the shower, Dr. Willis' office called and asked if Nick could come in regarding the blood work and X-rays from the night before. Greg told the caller that they would be there and went to tell Nick about the appointment.

Nick complained all the way to the optometrist's office. He didn't like eye exams because they took so long. Greg sympathized with Nick on that score. When Dr. Hill called for Nick to come back, Greg offered to go with him. Nick told him that he'd be fine and went to get the exam started. Dr. Hill asked Nick several questions about his headaches and did various tests trying to find out why. When he was finished, Dr. Hill told Nick that his office would be in touch to let him know the results.

When they left the office, Nick and Greg decided to have lunch. After lunch, they went to see Dr. Willis. The doctor explained that there was nothing abnormal about Nick's blood work, and the x-rays looked okay. He advised Nick to continue with the medication prescribed to him, and told him that if there were any problems to call him. Nick and Greg thanked the doctor and left the office.

When they got home, Nick decided to do some research online regarding his symptoms. Greg had to work that night, so he went to take a nap. Nick waded through pages of information, and by the time he was finished, he was thoroughly confused. He shut down the computer and turned on the television. He found a documentary on Animal Planet about birds, but couldn't seem to concentrate on it for any length of time. He was too concerned about what was going on with his body to worry about much else.

When it was time for Greg to be up, Nick went in to wake him. Before he did, he stood by the bed peering down at his lover. Greg's face looked angelic in the soft light coming in from the hallway. Nick bent down and placed a tender kiss on Greg's forehead. Greg stirred, opened his eyes, and smiled.....

“Hey, you...”

“Hey, angel. Sleep well?”

“Uh-Huh.....what did you do?”

“Did some research ...”

“Find anything useful?”

“Not really...just ended up more confused than I was before...”

“Well, that happens. Maybe Dr. Hill will have some answers after he gets your test results back.”

“Maybe.....”

After Greg left for work, Nick went back online and did more research based on his symptoms. He kept coming back to one particular disease called Primary open angle glaucoma. The symptoms described were exactly like the ones Nick was experiencing, and that made him wonder if that's what he had. He was happy to note that the treatments were easy, and that if caught in time, the damage could be minimal. He printed out the information, and went to bed feeling better than he had in quite a while.

Dr. Hill's office called the next day and asked Nick to come in to discuss his test results. He considered waking Greg to go with him, but decided to let him sleep. Nick knew Greg was worried about him, and he hoped that when he got home from Dr. Hill's he would have good news.

Dr. Hill told Nick that he did indeed have the beginnings of open angle glaucoma. He went on to say that there was very minimal damage to Nick's eyes, and that the condition could be treated in a number of ways. There was a regimen of anti-inflammatories he would be taking, and he needed to have periodic eye exams to monitor his condition. Dr. Hill wrote Nick a prescription for the meds and told him to set up an appointment with the receptionist. Nick thanked him and left the office.

Greg woke up alone. He rolled over in the bed and looked at the clock. 1:45p.m. Where was Nick? Greg got up and walked through the condo, but Nick was nowhere to be found. Greg saw a piece of paper near the coffee pot, and picked it up.

Baby,

Dr. Hill's office called and wanted me to come in about

the test results. Will be back as soon as I can.....

Tex

Greg lay the note down and poured himself a coffee. He sat down at the kitchen table and was thinking about Nick and what could possibly be wrong with his husband. He hoped that it was nothing serious because so many bad things had happened to Nick over the years, and Greg was afraid. The not knowing was eating at Greg. He called Nick's cell, and all Nick would say was that he needed to talk to him when he got home.

Greg went in and took a shower. Just as he was getting out, he heard the front door slam and Nick singing at the top of his voice. Greg wrapped a towel around himself and ran to the front room to see just what in gay hell was going on.....

“Nick! What the hell???”

“Oh, hey, baby.....”

“Nick, what is going on?”

“Well, I talked to Dr. Hill. He told me what was wrong, and what I needed to do.....”

“Well???”

“Dr. Hill says I have Primary open angle glaucoma. He told me that I needed to take anti-inflammatories and schedule periodic eye exams to monitor my condition. He sounded real optimistic, and he thinks is doable.”

“Oh, Nicky, that's great. It's not as serious as we thought...”

“No, baby, it's not. It's gonna be alright.....”

“What was with all the singing when you came in?”

“Aww, baby, I was just happy that things were gonna be okay. I used to call it 'singing some sunshine'. You know, just to lighten the mood.”

Greg launched himself at Nick and devoured his mouth with a kiss. Nick began to kiss him back, and the two men practically ran to the bedroom. They fell across the bed hungrily kissing and groping each other with wild abandon. Nick pinned Greg to the mattress and simply devoured him with his mouth. Greg began to whimper and moan under Nick's ministrations. Nick stopped sucking Greg's dick and looked up at his lover. Greg simply shook his head and Nick reached for the lube.

After the loving was over, Nick and Greg lay wrapped in each others' arms. Just as Nick was about to drift off to sleep, he felt Greg stir.....

“Nick?”

“What is it, baby?”

“Will you do something for me?”

“What is it you want me to do?”

“Sing me some sunshine.....”

THE END
