Taking long, deep breaths you reassure yourself and push open the doors to the restaurant. You still can't believe she called you up after all these years, secretly you're hoping she's realised how much she loves you and wants to take you back.

You immediately see her, sitting at the table you two always ate at, her back is towards you.

You almost turn on your heel but a bit of mental reasoning keeps your feet moving forwards.

Reaching the table you're sure your heart has just deflated right there in your chest.

She's not alone, Catherine sits with her hand resting on another woman's lap, their fingers entwined.

You can't help noticing the diamond rings.

"Sara, I'm so glad you came. This is Lora. My wife."

You shake hands to be polite and have to keep swallowing to stop the puke from staining their shirts.

An hour passes and you listen as Catherine tells you about their ceremony and how happy they both are. You spend most of the time in silence, keeping your eyes focused a little to the side of Catherine's face, not wanting to make eye contact, afraid that the light you once saw there might have gone. That light that was once for you, but now belongs to another.

You excuse yourself to the bathroom and sit in the cubicle crying, regretful for all the things you could have had if you and Catherine had still been together.

Sniffling like a child you look up and she's standing there, as beautiful as when she was last in your arms.

"Hey." she smiles knowingly.

"Hey." you force back, ashamed that she's found you like this.

"I think I know what's on your mind."

"We could have been so good together Catherine, what went wrong?"

"We both know the answer to that Sara, I couldn't stay and watch you drink yourself into an early grave."

"I'm sober now, I haven't touched the stuff since the day you walked out on me."

"I'm glad Sara, I really am but I have a new life, I have Lora."

"I know. I'm sorry."

"Don't be. Come on, It hurts me so much to see you like this, not a day goes by when I don't think about us and what we could have had."

You nod and dab your eyes with tissue.

"I still love you Sara, in here." she points to her heart and you smile.

Hesitantly you lean forward and meet her lips, she doesn't pull away. You've waited for this moment for 2 years and you know that all the waiting was worth it.

All the things you've wanted to tell her, all the emotions you've both hidden since she left are passed between your lips, without a single word being spoken.

Looking into her blue eyes you both smile and she takes your hands in hers.

"For old times sake." she whispers, as your lips meet for one final, knowing kiss.
