Everything was going so well for them. Too well.

Greg sighed softly as he looked out of the kitchen window at the gorgeous sunny day, the first day he and Ryan had both had off this week.

They were lucky that they were partnered at work, or they might not have the luxury of days off together. And it seemed that today was going to be another beautiful sunny day to go out and get things done, just like the last day they'd had off work. Another day to enjoy each other's company.

Greg knew that he shouldn't be skeptical, that he should simply take each day as it came to them and enjoy those days to the fullest.

But it was hard not to feel that something had to go wrong at some point.

Their days were just too perfect lately. Of course, they saw terrible things at work, but that was in the nature of their jobs. They had to expect that.

No, it was their time off that seemed too perfect to be true. Greg couldn't help feeling that dark clouds were going to swoop in at some point and ruin their perfect days, that they were having too good at life for it to last. When things seemed to be too good to be true, they probably were.

That had always been his philosophy, and he doubted that would ever change. He was always cautious when he felt that there was too much heaven in his life.

Greg had never trusted that feeling of too much heaven. He'd always felt that sooner or later, that heaven had to be obscured by dark clouds and troubles.

Maybe he shouldn't feel that way, he told himself, a smile slowly curving his lips upwards. After all, looking on the dark side of life never really did anyone any good; it just made them unhappy when they didn't have to be. There was no reason to go courting problems.

He and Ryan didn't have any problems, not really. There were the small, everyday things, but every couple faced that in their relationship. It wasn't a big deal.

In fact, they were the happiest couple he knew.

There were no clouds on their horizon, and he shouldn't think that there would be. There was no reason to believe that he and Ryan had too much heaven given to them.

They were just lucky, he told himself with a smile, stretching out his arms as though he meant to embrace the day. If that seemed too good to be true, then he should simply accept that fact, and stop looking for problems where there were none. He shouldn't go looking for trouble.

There was no use creating dark clouds and problems where none existed, Greg told himself. Ryan wouldn't do that, and he wasn't going to, either.

They were happy, and he was going to accept that fact and enjoy it while he could.
