"Is that a beaver? Castor canadensis sounds like a beaver to me."

"Today's trivia prize goes to Sara." Greg said looking upset.

"How did beaver fur get onto our victim?" Grissom asked. "That might be what breaks this case open. They're not indigenous, not in this part of Nevada anyway."

"No, they are restricted to the Northern edge of Nevada, if our victim or perpetrator was further afield than that, it's a federal case, not a police one."

Typical Sara, knows all about the beaver, its range and everything. God it could make a woman depressed. But still you've got to love her, she doesn't go round beating people up with her extensive trivia knowledge, and she shares information that we could have got elsewhere really generously. Telling us this might be a federal case won't make the sheriff happy though, he wants us to crack it, not had it over to the feds who will take all the glory.

With a small nod of my head and a quick smile I get Sara to follow me to the bathroom.

"You're right of course, if it's out of state it will be a federal case. But Grissom won't like that, and the sheriff sure won't like that. So be careful, being right isn't always what it is about." I told her.

"Bloody politics. I hate the politics that goes with this job sometimes. We're meant to solve crimes, catch the bad guys, and we can't even agree on how to do that!" She exploded in reply.

I reached out to touch her arm, calm her down, but the touch made her turn wildly, confused about what was happening. She slipped on the tiled floor and started to fall. Acting purely on reflex I tried to catch her, stop her hurting herself, and I succeeded after a fashion. I don't think she did it deliberately, but one hand ended up on my breast and our lips ended up almost touching, and I had both my arms around her, holding her to me, almost hugging.

We both blushed, this was way too intimate for us.

I still don't know why, but rather than moving back, my head moved forward almost of its own volition, and I kissed her on the lips, our first kiss. I was stunned when her lips opened beneath mine and she drew me deeper in to the embrace.
