"What do you have up your sleeve now?" Ryan laughed as Greg held out an arm to stop him from entering their living room. "Is there something in there you don't want me to see? I can't believe you've already started your Christmas shopping this early."

Greg shook his head, laughter in his voice when he spoke. "Nope, nothing like that," he said, shaking his head. "I just want you to take your time coming in here. I don't have anything to hide. I just have a surprise for you that I don't want you to see too soon."

Ryan held up his hands, closing his eyes and laughing. "Okay, okay, I won't come in until you say I can. And I won't open my eyes, either, how's that? Whatever you're hiding in there, it'll be a complete surprise for me. Is that good enough to suit you?"

"Better than good enough." Within a few seconds, Greg was tugging on his arm, drawing him into the living room and closing the door behind him. Ryan still didn't open his eyes; he wasn't going to do so until Greg told him that he could. After all, he had promised.

Greg led him carefully across the room; Ryan wasn't sure just where they were, but he thought that they were standing in the doorway that led into the kitchen. He had no idea why Greg would want him to stand here, but he was sure that his boyfriend would explain everything.

He felt Greg's arms sliding around his neck, pulling him close -- then his boyfriend's soft lips were on his, and Greg was kissing him breathless. All he could think of was how much he loved Greg, how much he wanted him, and how he wished that they were naked in bed together.

"This is a nice surprise, but .... is there something important about me standing in this particular place while you're doing it?" he murmured against Greg's mouth. He didn't really care where they were, as long as Greg kept kissing him like this, but he couldn't help wondering.

"Look up," Greg whispered, his dark eyes sparkling with mischief. When Ryan did, he instantly saw the reason that Greg had wanted them to be standing in the kitchen doorway. Taped to the arch of the doorway was a tiny sprig of mistletoe.

"I should have guessed," Ryan said with a laugh, hugging Greg more closely against him. "Mistletoe is one of the traditional things about this time of year," he added, raising an eyebrow in question. "You're not exactly a traditional kind of guy, Greg. What gives?"

Greg shrugged, his cheeks coloring slightly. "I just thought it would be a nice touch," he said softly, his gaze not leaving Ryan's face. "I love kissing you, and having mistletoe right here through the holidays gives me a good excuse to kiss you any time you're standing in this doorway."

"You don't need an excuse to kiss me any time you want, babe," Ryan said, his throat tightening. "But it's a sweet gesture. And I like having mistletoe around. I gives the place a really festive feeling, y'know?" He laughed as an idea came to him. "Is it in the other apartment, too?"

"Sure is," Greg answered, his laughter mingling with Ryan's. "You don't think I'd have it in one place and not the other, do you? I'm not going to miss out on a chance to kiss you, no matter which apartment we're in. It's kind of a foolproof plan, don't you think?"

"I like your plan," Ryan told him, leaning forward to press his lips against his boyfriend's in another long, lingering kiss. When they finally broke apart, Ryan knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that it wouldn't be long before they decided to head for the bedroom.

"I want to take you to bed," he whispered, deciding that he would be the first one to suggest it. "I want to strip your clothes off slowly and make love to you all night long. Doesn't matter if there's mistletoe around or not. And anyway, that's just for kissing, isn't it?"

"I think mistletoe is for anything you want it to be for," Greg said, his brow furrowing slightly in concentration. "Kissing, making out, making love ...." A grin spread across his features as he glanced towards the hallway that led to their bedroom. "Are you up for finding out?"

"Definitely," Ryan said with a laugh, moving towards the hallway. "I bet I can get my clothes off quicker than you can." Too late, he remembered that he'd told Greg he was going to strip him. But that could wait for another day, he told himself with an inward smile.

"I'll be there in a few minutes," Greg told him, stopping by the bathroom door. "Don't stat without me, okay?" He disappeared into the bathroom, closing the door behind him as Ryan made his way to the bedroom, pulling off his shirt as he went.

He didn't intend to start anything without Greg, but it wouldn't hurt to be ready for his boyfriend when he walked through the door, Ryan thought, unzipping his jeans and sliding them off. With a sigh of contentment, he laid down on the bed, ready to greet Greg when he appeared.

When he looked up at the ceiling, his breath caught in his throat. Of all the things he might have expected to see, he hadn't thought that the ceiling over their bed would be covered with dozens of tiny sprigs of mistletoe, just waiting for them to .... well, to do whatever they wanted.

Most people might not have found it a romantic gesture, but Ryan did. Greg was basically telling him that he wanted them to be under the mistletoe when they made love, when they fell asleep at night and awakened in the morning. To Ryan, it was a sweet and endearing gesture.

If Greg's words had been true, then this mistletoe over their bed gave him carte blanche to do anything he wanted to do with his boyfriend. Of course, he already had that right -- but having the mistletoe there on the ceiling just made it all the more romantic.

He leaned back against the pillows when he heard Greg coming down the hallway, opening his arms as his boyfriend appeared in the doorway of their bedroom. Greg was beautifully, gloriously naked; he obviously had the same thing on his mind that Ryan did.

Greg didn't hesitate to come into Ryan's arms; within moments, they were lying beside each other, their kisses passionate and breathless. Ryan's mind was spinning; he could hardly think, or even breathe. All he could do was hug Greg close against him, holding him tightly.

He had never been as much in love with anyone as he was with this man. He hadn't even known that such a strong, pure love could exist before he'd lost his heart to Greg. And here, under the mistletoe, he intended to show his boyfriend just how much he loved him.

Kissing was the least of what he intended to do, Ryan thought as they rolled over until Greg was on his back, with Ryan propped up on his elbows above him. "Is it too early to wish you a merry Christmas?" he whispered, smiling down at the man who owned his heart.

"Not at all," Greg whispered back, wrapping his arms around Ryan's shoulders and pulling him down for another passionate, heady kiss. Ryan let himself get lost in that kiss, wanting nothing more than to be with the man he loved and let the rest of the world fade away.
