Title: Behind the Windows

Pairing: Nick/Greg
Rating: PG
Summary: 500 word post ep drabble for "Empty Eyes".As soon as he pushed the door open into house, he knew something was wrong. The sun hadn't begun to peek over the horizon yet, giving the day a new start instead feeling the remnants of the last two nights still flowing freshly through his veins. He could see the outline of Greg, sitting on the couch. Darkness settled all around him except for the street lights giving a blueish hue to Greg's already solemn expression. He was looking down, staring at the empty glass in his hand, and that's when Nick noticed the half empty whiskey bottle on the coffee table, and he knew what he was going through. Seeing that kind of horror, violence, knowing that one human being could be so cruel and dark inside. He remembered back to a time not long after he came to Vegas. A similar scene with a family, their bodies scattered throughout their home. The bloody handprints of an innocent boys life taken at such at young age still held a grip on his soul.
"Hey G you ok?" Nick whispered not wanting to startle his younger lover, yet wanting to help if he could, he'd been there, that first time you see that. Not like Nick didn't know the answer yet still feeling obliged to ask.
"I know what your going through man, it's never easy. Your first major crime scene like this. At least last year when we found that family, we saved the little girl," he quietly stated and he stared into the kitchen and the card that still had a spot taped safely to the refrigerator door. "There's no explanation or reasoning behind something like this, just if you need to talk, you know I've been there, I'm here now." He thought his words pierced the hollowness of Greg's expression, and maybe somehow he heard them.
Greg grasped for the bottle again, with steady hands and poured himself another healthy dose of the numbing liquid and poured it down his throat, the burn felt like the punishment he deserved. Plus the mind numbing effect was the only sensation he was looking for.
"Greg, please. You know you can talk to me, I told you about my first trip to a crime scene and what happened when I got there. Just tell me, talk to me..."
Greg quickly snapped his head around to face Nick, the move caught Nick off guard by its quickness . The coldness and bitterness Nick found there was something he'd never seen in those warm brown glittering orbs he had known for years now.
"They think I killed him Nick, they think I killed him..." as he finished the rest of the alcohol he was clutching. Greg simply stated a fact, no feeling, no trembling voice, no thick emotion, just the empty eyes of another victim that Nick didn't know how to bring back.
