I stood there in shock as Nick's words finally hit home. He was leaving me! That's all I could think about. Nick just told me he was leaving me. I finally came to my senses and asked him why. I asked him what I had done to deserve him leaving. Hell, I asked the man so many questions that I don't even remember them all. He patiently explained to me that he had met this guy at work and they realized that they had feelings for each other. He added insult to injury by stating that his feelings for this new guy ran deeper and were stronger than what he felt for me.

He went on to ask if he could leave some of his things at my place until he got his new living arrangements made. Like a dumb ass I said he could, and he told me that he would call me to arrange a time to pick up his stuff. He gave me back his house key and said that he needed to go because he had to go pick his friend up. Before he left, he went into our bedroom and packed some clothes and his toiletries and told me he would call about the other stuff. I stood there numb as he pulled out of our driveway.

I went about the rest of my day with a very heavy heart. I tried to think of anything I had done to make Nick want to leave. The more I thought about it, the sadder I became, and I was crying my eyes out before the afternoon was over. The next day, I got up and went in to work. The day dragged on and I was so ready to leave at quitting time. I decided to go ahead and stop at the market and pick up some stuff I needed at home. As if things weren't bad enough, I saw Nick and his new boyfriend. I recognized him from a picnic the graveyard shift had last summer. His name was Greg Sanders.

I managed to get away from the market without the two of them seeing me. I drove home and put my groceries away and fixed a bite to eat. I tried to eat, but couldn't. I knew it was because I'd seen Nick and Greg earlier, I just didn't want to admit it. I wanted to keep denying that Nick had left me, but seeing them together just made it more real. I decided that even though I'd lost Nick, I'd make sure he wouldn't forget me. I just needed to come up with a plan.

It took some doing, but I thought I'd come up with the perfect plan. Nick had called and asked about picking up the rest of his things. We set up a day and time, and Nick asked if he could bring Greg . He said that he wasn't trying to rub my nose in it, but that he would need Greg's help with his things. I told him that would be fine. We ended the conversation on that note, and while thinking about it later, I decided that Greg coming with Nick would fit into my plan perfectly.

On the day Nick was supposed to come get his stuff, I got up early and cleaned the house. I made fresh coffee and had everything ready. When Nick and Greg arrived, I greeted them and offered them coffee. I could tell Nick was uncomfortable but knew he wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Greg was nervous too, but he hid his better. I was polite to him and that seemed to calm him. Once they had finished their coffee, Nick said that they needed to get started.

Nick and Greg took a break about halfway through getting Nick's stuff. I fixed some sandwiches and iced tea. While they were eating, I went to the hall closet and got a box of pictures that belonged to Nick. I told Nick that I had gone through and gotten all of the pictures of us out and that Greg might enjoy seeing Nick when he was younger. Nick smiled at that idea and asked Greg to go and put the box in the truck.

While Greg was outside, Nick thanked me for being kind to Greg. I told him not to worry about it. He asked why I separated the pictures and I explained that it might bother Greg to open the box and see photos of me with Nick. I went on to say that I figured that Nick wouldn't want to open the box and be reminded of me......

"Now why did you have to go and say that?"

"Well, Nick, it's the truth. You have Greg now and you can move on. You don't need any reminders of me around."

Before Nick could reply, Greg came into the room.....

"Am I interrupting??"

"No, Greg, Jason and I were just talking about a smart-assed remark he made....."

"Nick doesn't like it when I get pissy, Greg. You might want to keep that in mind....."

"You know, when you act like this, it makes me wish I could forget I ever met you....."

I heard Greg gasp when he saw the gun in my hand. Nick turned around in time to see me put the gun up under my chin.....

"Jason, what the hell are you doing?"

"Making sure you won't forget me even though want to. You said so yourself."

"That's not what I meant....."

"Sure it is, Nick!"

"Jason, we can talk about this......."

"Bullshit, Nick!"

"Jason, just calm down....."

I could see the tears flowing freely down Nick's face, but I was beyond caring. Nobody wants to be forgotten, and I was making damn sure Nick Stokes would never forget me.....

"Jason, why are you doing this?"

"Just to make sure you won't forget me, Nick......" That's when I pulled the trigger.
