We need one more man for the lineup,” Brass said to Catherine as they watched the suspect being led into a room with a one-way mirror. “You think Nick would want to help out?”

“If he hadn’t been at home with the flu I bet he would have wanted to play charades,” Catherine said, a smile on her face. “I know who to call,” she added before she grabbed her cell phone and dialed a number she knew by heart.

“Hey baby,” she started to the person on the other end of the line. “Can you come to the PD? Bring your leather jacket. Okay, bye.” Catherine gave Brass a thumbs up. “All set. Our fourth man will be here in fifteen minutes.”

“If you could give him this scarf and tell him to cover the lower half of his face. Mrs. Winters said the guy looked like Michael Jackson, with his mouth and nose covered,” Brass replied as he handed Catherine a dark scarf.

“Yes Sir,” Catherine mock-saluted, earning herself a nudge from the grumpy detective.

“Behave. You may have been promoted to supervisor, but that doesn’t mean you suddenly have the right to tease this old man.

“Did you just refer to yourself as old?” Catherine asked, one eyebrow raised and a smirk on her lips.

“Haha, very funny,” Brass said as he walked to the door and opened it for the strawberry blonde CSI.

“Oh, no. Age before beauty,” Catherine said, motioning for the detective to go first. She had to duck quickly to the side as Brass lunged for her.

“It’s number two,” Mrs. Winters said, sniffling a little. Catherine placed a comforting hand on the woman’s shoulder. “Thank you, Ma’am.” She nodded to an officer who walked over to the intercom and started mumbling something through it. Guiding the woman out of the small room she continued, “If you would follow me to Captain Brass’ office we’ll finish your statement.”

The woman nodded silently and followed her through the hallway of the PD. “Captain Brass will be with you in a sec,” Catherine said as she led Mrs. Winters to a chair.

“Thank you.”

Catherine walked out into the hallway again and saw the officer leading suspect number two towards the booking area. Lineup suspect number four was headed her way.

“G’day Ma’am.” The hoarse voice was muffled by the scarf.

Catherine nodded, a confident smile on her face as she carried on down the hall.

“Where do you think you’re going?” A hand gripped her upper arm and spun her around, a tall body backing her into the wall.

Before Catherine could respond, lips were claiming hers roughly in a demanding kiss while hands were roaming her body.

“Catherine! What are you doing?” Brass’ voice thundered through the hallway. “How could you do this to-“

Then the leather-clad person turned to face the Captain, a gap-toothed grin showing. “Sara?”

“Hi Dad,” Sara started. “Sorry for the PDA. We haven’t seen one another since Monday.” Quickly, she pulled Catherine along, heading outside, leaving a surprised detective behind.
Brass shook his head. “Kids.”
